I was wondering why Ash suddenly got rid of his Gliscor, considering it had been such a core member of his team, and it had an interesting mirror match potential against Paul's Gliscor. But now I see it's because he's getting a Gible. Fair trade. I guess this would be the first Dragon type he's owned.
The gag where Piplup keeps getting singularly hit by Gible's failed Draco Meteor kept getting funnier over time. One thing I appreciate about DP is that Dawn's Piplup basically became a second Pikachu. In Kanto, Pikachu's job was basically to do weird shit in the background while the humans were talking, in order to give the audience something funny to watch. I don't know when exactly, but by AG at least, he'd matured enough that he was forgettable in most episodes, desu. He has a sort of character in being the elder statesmen among Ash/May/Dawn's other Pokemon, keeping the unruly ones in line. Unfortunately, in XY, Clemont's Bunnelby had taken over this role as well, often being the one to mediate Clemont's Chespin, and Serena's Pancham and Eevee. Piplup has that same energy as OS Pikachu though. He's constantly getting into shenanigans, often at his own expense. He's got a lot of personality, and I like watching Piplup behave in the world. I hope he retains that spirit whenever he returns in BW or Journeys.
