I wouldn't mind, but it has to be presented well and have proper characters that I actually give a shit about. SM's presentation is absolutely atrocious. Nonstop black screens, reused animations, and characters with absolutely no personality. PMD's a more plot focused game, but the first game suffers from a whole lot of nothing outside of "natural disasters save the world", second has a great, albeit generic/done to death plot but is marred by horrendous writing, and Gates actually did a good job at presenting and creating characters you actually cared about.
Games like Persona do well because of the way the games are presented. 2 and 3 do a great job at creating characters that grow over the course of the game, and 5 is aesthetically pleasing to look at, unlike the plot-based main series Pokemon games.

Ah yes. I sure love an RPG where enemies only fight with a single unit, can get killed instantaneously, never switch out or use proper strategies, and constantly hands out free win items in case you're bad enough to actually find any semblance of challenge somewhere.
>stop using items
The game literally gives you items. It'd be like saying "Don't use that Trash Burger you picked up in EarthBound, even though the game hands it to you for free!" Other RPGs balance their game around item use and don't turn them into free wins. Pokemon does a piss poor job at item management.
