>>40134045They wrote themselves into a corner by introducing ~100 new pokes + ~200 new moves per gen and keeping supporting all legacy mons and moves, all while shitting out yearly releases to grab a piece of that sweet sweet holiday pie. Of course they couldn't realistically keep it up, and they would eventually stop support every pokemon sooner or later. They just decided that the switch to a new console which has no compatibility with the previous console was the best time to do that.
