The way Masters handles Gloria and Victor is actually really bizarre and contradictory. Ever since Victor was introduced Gloria has basically been reduced to being just a side piece and the minor protagonist, while Victor’s been one of the most important characters and plot drivers for every event he’s appeared in. Like for this event for example, for part 2 Gloria just teams up with Hop and Marnie to win a battle against fucking Team Galactic and that’s it. Then they put Victor in the main event with Leon and Lear, after he went through a side plot of investigating Giovannis involvement with Looker, and it’s actually Leon and Victor who beat Rose together and bring him to his senses.
Then to top it all off the writers go out of the way to shit on Gloria to prop up Leon by reenacting the intro exhibition match where Raihan jobbed to Leon and putting Gloria in place of Raihan. Rose introduces Leon as Galar’s greatest trainer and Gloria as just “one of the strongest”. The story ends with Leon dynamaxing his Charizard like the intro ends in SwSh, and from there we can basically assumed that Gloria lost.
I don’t think the writing team is fully on board with what the people who decide what units to put out is doing. There’s some obvious conflict here.
