>>38343608>To me it felt like I was surpassing my old self when I defeated him that gave the journey through both regions feel totally conclusive in a way beating the Elite Four and Champions in both generations couldn't quite emulateThis. That fight made me shiver (even if I lost). To behonest I expected Red to be completely missing from the game so finding him there, in this game's equivalent of Cerulean Cave, was still a surprise. But seeing those sprites that I had only seen when they belonged to MY character was something very special. Even if it wasn't my team it felt like I was surprising myself.
This is why I'll forever bemoan B2W2 (and to a lesser extent USUM) for dropping the ball so fucking hard. Being proper sequels in the same region AND boasting a cross-game connectivity method that gave you goodies and memories about the previous MC throughout the game, fighting said MC bearing your name and your team seemed like a given... but there was fuck all. What I had feared about Red actually happened with Touya/Touko, in a game that had all the right tools in place to make it even more meaningful and polished.
USUM could have used Ultra Wormholes and PGL to let you fight your character from the previous game, but I didn't really expect an enhanced version to do that, much less with gen 7's overall lack of polish.
