I bring it up because if Game Freak is future proofing their models and textures like they always seem to do, they would naturally want to create and use the albedo in preparation for the Switch game that will use this method.
I'm not defending it, it looks like shit on a lot of Pokemon, but it's at least a valid reason as to why they did what they did. Would be interesting to create a texture pack mod for the game that corrects the desaturated colours.
