Bagon essentially do what would be suicide for most by throwing themselves off of cliffs trying to fly, and evolved(the more real world sense, not becoming Shelgon) really hard heads in the process. Shelgon will sit still in a cave and starve itself to become stronger, somehow not dying without any food or water in its time as a Shelgon. Then... It happens.
Through sheer willpower, Shelgon was able to mutate its cells and sprout wings, becoming Salamence. It likes to destroy stuff like basically every other pseudo at the time, but there's also a happy component where it flies in the air doing loops in joy and spewing fire. Then, when it mega evolves it is able to fly non-stop and can fully capitalize on its flying typing, essentially the fullest realization of its long held dream.
I like Metagross more in basically every other way especially since I'm tired of all the dragon type pseudos, and Garchomp is more useful to me, but Salamence wins me over on lore alone. Plus, it was the first traditional dragon pokemon pumped out and was actually dragon type, not including Rayquaza.
