There isn't a single game in which your starters even remotely affect the difficulty of the game. Hell, you can abandon your starter almost straight away to get one of the three monkeys. I don't even get what you're talking about, in what way were people advised to pick one starter over the other? What does the metagame even have to do with that? What the fuck are you even on about?
It's difficult to believe someone over the age of 18 can genuinely complain about the difficulty of a Pokémon game, especially when everything dies in one hit if you take advantage of type weaknesses. I mean, I'd get if you complained the game was too linear or the pokemon distribution was poor like Gen 2 is but your complaints are that you didn't prepare well enough. How is that anyone's fault but yours?
