Playing devil's advocate, it isn't so much that "Pokemon was always bad", but that some of X/Y's issues are just dumb little things that Game Freak has done for years (like making games easier for newcomers, or removing post-game features between generations). At the same time, those issues were dialed up here with Masuda trying to make sure that absolutely everyone can finish his game blindfolded. So returning players are more vocal about those things here than previously. Especially without a re-release game to address player feedback like they did in Platinum or BW2.
