Gen 1-2
These games were peak GB RPG's with gen 2 pushing the limits of the system. Pretty much every pokemon from these gens are universally loved and considered iconic.
Gen 3-5
There a lot of unreasonable hate for gen 3 and 4 people usually make complaints about that you could make for any generation. Not to say I dont understand why they dislike them as there was a big change in the overall feeling of the franchise here. The games were different, the anime was different, the cards were different and the pokemon looked different. There was also a literal cut off point where you couldnt transfer your bros from gen 2 to 3. Realistically though gen 3-4 did nothing but add to the series. I decided to include gen 5 with them because it still feels like its from that era despite gen trying something so different at most it is the transitional point between the second and third eras and there was definitely more of a shift in gen 6.
Gen 6-7
The begining of the end. Throw away gimmicks that ruin competitive and the poorly designed fairy type that is so broken it has almost no bad type combinations and fucked over a lot of type interaction. The creation of stiff assets that they still use to this day. This is also when the regional dexs became overloaded with oldmons due to BW negative reception. The exp all, affection system and hallway story begin here and plague these gens aswell.
Gen 8-ongoing
The fuck the fans era. In these gens they out right started to remove option and features from the games to idiot proof them and not have them take up as much time.Theres a genuine feeling of contempt for the players in these games with only PLA having any sort of quality to it because it was made by the more passionate B team who GF will no doubt condemn them to making apps for their tresspasses for making a game thats not hate mail to the fans
