I think the usual calculus would apply on a broader scale. Instantly appealing at the start because it is remotely more complex than any other narrative product in the franchise, then interest falls off a cliff somewhere between RS and DP since we're no longer directly paralleling Ash's earliest days. The stories would need a good bit of tweaking too but an long adaptation made so long after the fact can do that.
