In contrast, Dragon Quest had monsters that were a blackface design and were in reference to black people like the left pic related, and it also has enemies that have designs that are similar to blackface but are not in reference to black people like the right pic related. (Only that specific recolor of that enemy has a blackface, the weaker version of that enemy has a green face and green skin. It's a really weird one.) Anyway in short: I think Jynx is more like the right example, she's based on the design trope of black face, big lips and big white circle eyes with small dot irises, but only visually. There is no intended racial connotation.
