It's not just the absurdity of a 10yo capturing and subjugating an omnipotent reality warping god with man made technology sold in convenience stores, it's also the cosmological ceiling Arceus&co imposed on the pokemon world. Whatever sense of mystery and mysticism the series had (or tried to recreate in later games) was effectively killed because all the answers now go back to arceus.
-The overuse of tropes like alternate dimensions, time travel, doomed timelines, doomsday cults, universal reset and interdimensional hopping. All these made the pokemon world(s) feel so flimsy, shallow and easy to discard, not to mention unnecessarily chaotic, poorly grounded and persistently apocalyptic. Fantastic way to butcher any semblance of worldbuilding.
