NYC is littered with pokestops and gyms which represent nothing in real life, and they don't account for spatial limits (which prevent you from having 2 stops in the same cell). Sometimes it's hard to tap on them individually due to being on top of each other.
These stops often contain pictures of event art or "community ambassador" logos. They have no right to exist by niantic's own rules, but they do because they absolutely despise you and me and everyone else living somewhere else.
The last GoFest added at least a fucking dozen of such gyms (not stops) to Central Park within a single view distance radius. pic related (the rest don't have raids on so they are not shown), they can be viewed on

Even disregarding sponsored stops, it's such bullshit for a game that supposedly wants you to go out and explore.
