Hop knew that his pokemon were too weak to take out Zamazenta. The reason no pokeball was shown was because this wasnt a pokeball but it was really a punch. He cocked it back and pretended there was a pokeball in his hand just so he could knock Zamazenta out in one hit. After it fainted he used the pokeball shown.
