Compare this to literally every Pokemon game, including GTI, where references to death are explicitly averted and the one exception to this, S/V, softens the blow as much as possible with a character getting killed offscreen before you've ever met them. Hydreigon's death in GTI is also not a death. You don't actually comprehend just how sheltered Pokemon is, likely because that is all you've played all your life.
