There are a lot of Pokemon that are complete shit without their Megas (like Charizard). So if you like Char but don't like the megas then you're shit out of luck. Honestly the only real difference is that it keeps the same name.
Plus Megas generally tend to be pretty badly designed with just a shitton of extra stuff tacked on.
