Made my favorite Pokemon super viable so I loved it, was personally super excited to see Megas for other Pokemon like Meganium, Azumarill and a wealth of really weak Gen 5 Pokemon. I REALLY hated how pseudos consistently got Megas, Mega Salamence and Mega Metagross stupid fucking broken and completely unnecessary.
Instead it was completely dropped for a MUCH less interesting gimmick in Z-Moves and even that was dropped for a much shittier revisit of Megas with D-Max.
Mega Evolutions will live on as an example of how Gamefreak has good ideas but their incompetence in handling them results in shit like 2 Mega-Zards, Mega Salamence and missed chances like all of Unova minus Audino.
