Let's be honest, overall GO is probably more fun than Sun/Moon will be.
I mean are we really gonna trust that Sun/Moon will be good after the complete disaster that was gen 6? And to add insult to injury, we aren't even getting a third version of X/Y.
It's pretty clear at this point that, after XY and ORAS, GameFreak is completely content with releasing new pokemon games that are completely watered-down and lacking in content, and there's really no reason to expect Sun/Moon to be any different.
But, there IS a silver lining here. If Pokemon GO continues to be as successful as it already is, and Niantic follows through on their promise to patch in new features (something GameFreak has never even done with the mainline games despite obviously having the ability to do so), and people who dropped the series years ago get back into it because of this, which will likely prompt them to try out some of the newer games, and Nintendo makes a shit-ton of money off of these "normies" basically rekindling their love of the series, THEN GameFreak might have incentive to put real effort into gen 8.
