Play the tutorial to unlock the Basic Yellow deck and nab tokens, use the other Basic XY decks against the AI in trainer challenge until you unlock all the cards in them so you can use them online and in custom decks, and keep playing against them for more tokens and trade-locked boosters to open for yourself. Storm Rider and Dark Hammer are often recommended theme decks, Iron Tide isn't so bad either from what I tried. Aurora Blast isn't overly bad but is usually used for its resistance against Dark Hammer's fighting types. But yeah at the moment the Basic XY decks are pretty good.
At one point I was actually thinking of rewriting 1d4chan's Pokemon article to include the updated TCG rules but never got around to it.
A shame that the Dawn of Eldar article isn't as entertaining to read anymore
