u could have a metropolitan area based on melbourne/sydney, outback areas, rainforest areas, etc. etc.
boxart legendaries could be something based on the rainbow serpent (who often is associated with water), and tiddalik (a giant frog that supposedly drank all the water in australia).
u could have a flying/ghost type Ibis pokemon based on the tjilbruke myth, ur generic early bird pokemon could go from budgie>lorikeet>cockatoo (with a shiny black cockatoo), u could have a regional aipom based on a tree kangaroo (since their analogues fill the same arboreal niche), so on and so forth
