Eh, I like the later designs because they're simplistic. They look more appealing that way to me.
Also Pokemon are not normal animals, they're pokemon, they aren't supposed to look like animals too much.
That's why I kinda don't like gen 1 designs, they're generic in the way they they don't stick out. Meowth is a cat with a coin on it's head. Pidgey is a bird. Onix is just a group of rocks.
Although some look interesting like Blastoise and Rapidash, most tend to look just like animals you'd see in the wild anyways, which isn't nessisarily good for a game that's fantasy.
While Gen 5 Pokemon stand out to be like Haxorus. He's not just some random dragon, he's a cool mix of an axe, a dinosaur looking thing AND a dragon.
Krookodile doesn't LOOK like a normal Croc, he looks different and unique.

TL;DR
I like the Modern Mons because they stick out from normal animals, while older gens felt too generic about their designs. Even though they're a bit less detailed then older gens.

Here's my thing with all this.
I have a shit-ton of personal reasons why I don't see the bullet points as "problems"
For one, I never liked the BF and have hated it to this day.
BUT, there are obviously people that did like it and want it back, which is a problem.
And really every Pokemon game- no, every game EVER MADE has problems.
Now I'm not saying you should just ignore those problems, BUT, you shouldn't go insane over said problems because you didn't get your way.
In the end, it's the developers game, and we can't do much to tell then to fix it, unless it gets enough of an uproar for them to do fix or add said thing.
For me, I like ORAS, it's not perfect, maybe not even that great, and I have plenty of other good, maybe better games I can play.
But you know what?
I play ORAS more than any other game I have.
So they did SOMETHING right? Right?
I don't know, I'm just trying to not be towards one side of the argument or the other, I'm trying to be neutral here man.
