It's no different than Pokeballs, they weren't invented to be part of the "whoa cool future" appeal, they were invented to explain how a kid could capture and lug around all those monsters since the series was based on bug catching and collecting.
Meanwhile something like the Dynamax band was created directly to be cool tech shit first, like something Futurama or Rick and Morty would explore as an episode premise, the UI is explicitly futuristic instead of being understated and "in the background" like modern software UI, you never really feel like you're alone in the wilderness with its monsters, the plots revolve about futuristic inventions etc.
