Breeding is being phased out of the series, very gradually.
First they added Hyper Training so you don't need to breed for IV's, and replaced the Day Care with the Nursery so you have to go out of your way to breed.
Then they made it so you can change the nature of a Pokemon with mints, so you no longer need to breed for a perfect nature.
Then they made it so you can get egg moves without breeding.
Next generation they will add a Rusty Bottle Cap to set IV's to 0, and the generation after that they will remove the Masuda Method.
Finally, in generation 13, breeding will be removed entirely.
