Cel animated and with gorgeous painted backgrounds, and they restrained their use of CGI, generally using it for special effects like the creepy tentacles in movie #6.

After Deoxys (movie #7), there is a noticeable decline in the aesthetic look of the movies. Lucario and the Manaphy movies still had cel painted characters, but the backgrounds looked too digital, and there is way too much use of CGI even for environments, so you lose that feel of the Pokemon world seeing the painted backgrounds in prior movies. You lose those darker colors. And then by Darkrai the movies are fully digital and the movies look oversaturated.
Story wise, they're generally enjoyable enough. 1, 2, 3, and 6 are probably the overall best when it comes to the moment to moment viewing experience since the movies keep the tension high almost throughout. 4, 5, and 7 are also overall enjoyable but also have boring stretches where not much is happening. After Deoxys (movie #7), the movies generally become plagued with sluggish pacing, which in addition to the aesthetic decline makes them less enjoyable to watch. Of the movies after Deoxys, the Power of Us is the best one, though by this point you have lost the fantasy adventure feel as aforementioned in
>>54730872. I've also warmed up to the Arceus movie. The rest I don't think are memorable.
