Why are people complaining about it "looking weird" or being "unrealistic" to make your character barefoot? It'd be an option, not mandatory, so if you think it looks weird you could simply just choose not to do it and you wouldn't see it in your game. Let people be barefoot if they want, it wouldn't affect your enjoyment of the game.
