This is just one of the attempts. And this is a lot cheaper to make. The art style is more simpler and the shading is a lot simpler. Usually, this means you get more animation, but there's been no real increase from XY. Every episode is full of still shots and reused animation, and they use cheap effects like sweat drops with no movements. So they're just saving money here, because they know they aren't going to make enough.
