>>12103629Learning Japanese as a native English speaker is pretty hard because they're very different. I think it depends how much you commit yourself to it. If you know how you learn best that'll help too. I found flashcards work well for me, so I have the Anki thing on my computer. Though it might be different if you just want to learn how to get yourself un-lost and such.

I haven't had any bad experiences, but a lot of the stuff I hear is stuff on trains and I'm kind of oblivious when on trains, usually just listening to music or playing my 3DS, so I haven't actually noticed if anyone was being weird because I'm a foreigner. In general, older people seem to be less friendly from my understanding.
