Resetting Ash's ability every region wouldn't work for an older audience so would Ash do better in Gyms and tournaments? And does that mean Jessie and James have to get more competent at their job so they don't come off as just about to be curbstomped every they show up? Would they catch more pokemon?
Should Ash age? because then you run into the problem of if you run into a region ahead of Ash you'd have to change out newbie or young gym leaders for OCs and also Serena would be a teenager at best to be the same age as Ash at the start of her journey and teenage Ash would be traveling with ten year old girls and that not a good look
