This would be a great case for legal personhood for a Pokemon here considering how this Pokemon thinks and acts, btw. I recall in an interview its been established that the Pokemon world is a much more accepting one than ours, so I could see a Pokemon that wants to have legal personhood and be classified as a Trainer be acceptable in most people's eyes. I recall a moment in the anime where Ash's Pikachu almost captured Meowth with a Luxury Ball, and that was not registered to any particular trainer as it was just being produced, so I'm pretty sure it could just capture itself.
