The point is that generations have always been a fan defined term, and by either standard, the lets go games aren't a new generation, and they also aren't compatible with USM, and won't be fully compatible with gen 8. They aren't mainline, they're just marketed that way.
In a year when SS is out, nobody will fucking remember lets go except as *maybe* the only way to get meltan if they don't do an event or just let you catch it in-game.
