on the flipside, gen 5 also introduced a bunch of excellent new pokemon like zebstrika, leavanny, whimsicott, lilligant, sigilyph, cofagrigus, reuniclus, sawsbuck, escavalier, frillish, galvantula, chandelure, golurk, bisharp, hydreigon, and volcarona. the starters were all good-to-great as well.
imo, it's arguably the strongest group of newcomers ever, only rivaled by hoenn, kalos and alola.
