Strong examples otherwise. I still prefer the "unexpected"/"surprising" route though. If those types of evolutions are executed carefully, you would appreciate their designs for more reasons than just being similar to their previous stage. Gliscor's only similarities with Gligar is that their both bat-like scorpions. But the fact they took the risk of changing its face, color palette, body structure, etc is why I like it so much. Its similar but not too similar. It feels like a stronger design for not relying on the aesthetics of the pre-evo so much.
