For a crustacean, this is an exoskeleton.
Crabrawler's design does not well represent an exoskeleton. Every shape is rounded and bulbous, there's no connective features, every piece is simply stuck onto every other. Nothing about its design even visually suggests that it has an exoskeleton, it could just as easily have smooth purple skin.
The only thing about its design that is immediately reminiscent of a crab at all is its legs.
Giving it exoskeletal features to make it look more like some kind of crustacean would hardly come close to the line of "recreating the animal wholesale."
