Half the of the Pokémon have arbiter or nonsensical balance changes and a lot of shit just doesn’t work because it isn’t programmed right. It got worse in his future games. The breeding mechanics in Pokémon Anil are downright broken for example. The incense don’t do anything and you’ll always obtain a baby pokemon when breeding, this means that trying to get a aqua jet Maril will always result in a Azuril. Opalo is full of the same downright bizarre shit. The music sometimes just stops working. Stairs are sometimes mono directional and something they’re impossible to stop on. Stuff like that.
Besides that the story is good if a bit hilarious in unintended ways. It’s written like a 90s Shonen anime in that people sometimes just act stupid for no reason and then things get absurdly serious in a tone whiplash. Mega evolution somehow feels both tacked on and integral to the story. The lore can be completely off the rails in places which is both a good thing and a bad thing depending on how you take it. It’s very mixed but I still recommend it.
