>>50431373I've been saying this since the game came out, but Galar in general had huge potential to commentate on the consumerist nature of the region and the commercialization of Pokemon battling for the enjoyment of others.
It would put shit like needing a sponsor to even enter the league, Leon being the best trainer ever and using Charizard as his ace into a whole other perspective, as well as the Gigantamax mechanic as a metaphor for the whole thing, and it would have the potential to get some actually cool story beats out of it and a good sense of progression as your character slowly undermines the entire operation by climbing the ranks as a nobody and dismantling the public image of a bunch of conceited gym leaders one by one.
Of course this would probably mirror the actual state of Pokemon in the real world a little bit too much so I very much doubt they'd even think about taking it in that direction.
