>>50976740FRLG: I will literally never get used to how Yamamoto draws adult/tall Red, I got used to every other character except Red. In terms of the story itself, it's just ok: I thought the OC villains were weakly written and ultimately unimportant, the plot is interesting but gets left on a cliffhanger to be handled in Emerald (major detraction), and I thought the way he handled Red and Green were kind of weak as well. Red has a moment where he wavers in his courage which feels a bit rushed (he loses one battle and immediately questions his life choices in the span of a few pages) and FRLG made me actively dislike Green. My biggest criticism of FRLG would just be that it's short; I was hoping to see more out of the characters I was attached to in Gen 1, and it gets to the action very quickly with no time to breathe.
E: This arc is legitimately bad; the battle frontier feels like the manga equivalent of filler, and it only gets good when based Gold and other previous mcs show up to resolve the hanging plot of FRLG. Emerald is really unlikeable, and I will never understand why he was introduced when Wally was an important character in RS who fit the green motif (Wally was also given a Pokedex and a starter in RS like any other main character, the author walks this back and makes it a point that Wally was only supposed to deliver these to Emerald). The only reason to read this is because you're attached to the other characters.
After Emerald my memory is more sparse, but I still remember my first impressions
DPPT: I really liked the Gen 4 arc when I first read it, I thought the character trio was very likeable and I thought the plot was interesting and well written
HGSS: Honestly not that good; the Pokeathalon is filler in the same way that the battle frontier is, it's a really short arc, and villains from the previous arc return with literally 0 consequences for their actions. Read this only because of Gold.
