Your average 8-10 year old can't pull that off without some means of income (like battling) and he admits battling isn't his strong suit. He's not booksmart because he had to focus on raising his damn self. But he still has a keen intuition, as evidenced by being able to call AI Turo's bluff before anyone else, and pointing out inconsistencies in the s/v book.
