Seriously though, your comparison is retarded.
A better comparison would be to say you ditch the first friend you ever had because someone else came along. Many people give their starter a lot of significance because it is the Pokemon they start their adventure with, and for all intents and purposes, they tend to be really good throughout the game as it gains levels and evolves.
