Persona games have way better characters than mainline SMT, and character driven games are typically pretty popular. From a game mechanics perspective, SMT is more satisfying and challenging than Persona.

They both have their problems. SMT hasn't written a good story since Nocturne where main characters haven't boiled down to "this is chaos man and this is law man side with one pls". Persona hasn't concluded a story without using the power of friendship in 3 games.

Play Devil Survivor because it's best spinoff
