OP here. Might as well blogpost. I used a pretty wide array of different mons during this run. All of the ones pictured took on at least one gym in the team and were trained up to lvl 80ish in case I needed them. 1st row is the elite four team, 2nd is long-term team members, 3rd row is short-term team members.
The ones that spent the longest in my team were Ariados, Gastrodon, Furfrou, and Staraptor. The run's only special rule was just first encounter in an area is the only one you can catch. Furfrou I got from the $5k egg in Pewter. It was excellent in the early game but just couldn't cut it in the late game and got perma-benched at Blaine. Blastoise I boxed quite early after getting a Shellos in Diglett's cave, but I brought him back in when I was desperate for a rapid spinner, and then made him the guy when I needed a mega and a good special attacker. Unfortunately Gyarados mogged him hard and he went into the box for the elite four. Typhlosion was my lucky Celadon red shard for egg encounter, but I didn't use him until I got a bottle cap and unlocked his hidden ability (fire moves get priority when at full health). Illumise was trained up and introduced for the 8th Dragon type gym primarily because it was the only fairy type I had in my whole box and I kept getting destroyed by Claire's Dracovish. Bottle capped it for Prankster with Charm, Encore, and Light Screen it was excellent in the elite four.
First run in a while. I'll play a gen 4 romhack soon
