Gamefreak is just killing the series quality. The games will still be bought because of brand loyalty, if LGPE is anything to go by. This means Gamefreak can do slack work and still be rewarded for it.
By butchering the games, Gamefreak is killing off the interest of longtime, dedicated players. This does NOT matter because they are replaced by the newer generation of folk. Sure they haven't played Pokemon in the peak DS era, but having started with Gen 6/7 their standards will be incredibly low, allowing Gamefreak to pump out more trash for the future.
The franchise will still go long and strong. But it doesn't deserve it.
