For context, they showed a flashback to Ash's fight with Alain and went out of their way to reanimate a very specific frame in the battle and change it, which originally had Ash Greninja. However, in the flashback, it is a normal Grenjinja and not AG. Pic related.
They had an entire episode where Ash brought his Lucario to train with Greninja (Ash had released him in XY) and even during that entire time, AG never happened even though it would have made perfect sense for the episode.
Their cope up until this point has been that it was "edited out" to create hype and advertisement as AG is totally going to come back to fight Alain during their rematch, and if you ever told them that makes no sense (Greninja was training Lucario for that fight, the episode makes no sense if Greninja was just going to come back to do that battle, Lucario has been shilled for ages and they had a big goodbye with Greninja ending with a sunset), they would tell you that you didn't understand foreshadowing and how it was so obvious it was going to happen (basically, schizoposting).
Now, they have been malding and coping ever since that magazine scan came out where it's now looking like Ash might not even battle Alain at all, which means there is 0 chance of AG coming back.
