You can fill your lost zone for mirage gate, fill your discard for Gardy, evolve your zard, bring back Archeops, spam generators, etc. Based on that here's currently about 10 competitive engines, with the next set bringing potentially 3 more with Xatu, past paradox, and Garchomp.
There's also the decks that don't need any acceleration, like rapid strike, zorobox, Meowscarada, united wings, or the upcoming Gholdengo.
