Nobody else played an instrument before middle school, so I had that going for me. Took private piano lessons up until my teacher passed away. I made better grades than all of them too, even in high school. Everything about my academic life was good save for the lack of friends I had (always moving away or turning out to be bad friends) and overall miserable social life thanks to gossip and just me being an introvert by nature. Now I only care about surviving through technical college so I can support myself and pay back my parents for helping me.
I'd never fully take pokemon out of my life, it helped me cope with my circumstances and I know it's been the same for others too.
