I know that a RivalLocke is already a thing, but that involves using your entire team, and there's no stakes of actually having your Pokemon die.
By the way, the Pokemon you choose to fight in the Colosseum battle must be marked as a member of your six-Pokemon team that your opponent can see and prepare for. I think this provides a lot of strategy and also prevents you from just throwing out fodder that you don't care to use.
