Went to that reddit thread about Kukui's battle and someone pointed out something that really changed my perspective of this battle:
Tapu Koko using Guardian of Alola is one of the dumbest things not only of the battle but of the anime in general.
Seriously, that move is supposed to be used to protect Alola and instead he uses it in a random battle because... reasons. So many situations when Alola was in danger and TK didn't even try to use it. Also that ability that the tapus used to regenerate z-move power would've been so handy in the many situations when Alola was about to be destroyed.
So the final battle is TK using a z-move for dumb reasons vs Ash using a z-move that has zero explanation, zero background, zero history, characters don't even mention it. This battle is just pure flashiness with zero substance.
Man, this battle gets worse if you think more about it, it has aged like milk.
