Years after Bruce and Casey cleaned up Tohjo...
A little girl could be seen playing with her friend, Brendan, near Littleroot. The two were joined by their life partners, Tatiana and Bulldozer- a Torchic and Mudkip respectively. The two were engaged in a great battle...
This one was down to the last inch.
Tatiana was barely scraping by- her claws were driven into the dirt and her head lowered, preparing to deal a final blow.
Bulldozer, meanwhile, was partially kneeling- feigning difficulty, or almost about to be knocked out? Who could say...
The two children were staring into each others' eyes as if to mimic the rivalry between their own Pokémon. Neither person knew which would win. Who would triumph. The chick? Or the 'kip?
Both trainers gave their orders-
-and, at the end of it all...
Tatiana stood tall, having won in triumphant fashion! Bulldozer lay behind her, face planted into the dirt, defeated.
Her trainer, Effie, caught her in her arms and cheered for their victory. While she and her Torchic spun, Brendan tended to his friend...
And so, their parents stepped in. Effie's father helped heal Bulldozer while Brendan's congratulated the boy's friend on her victory...

By now, however, Effie was in a very different place.
Leaning out the window of her Rustboro apartment, all she could do was sigh. She'd become so tired of Roxanne's local training classes- of how she'd be scolded simply for petting her Poochyena, of how she'd constantly be given the lowest grades for the most objectively useless subjects. Meteorology was boring. Not even its effects on Pokémon battles could capture the young girl's attention.
So, instead, she decided today was the day. Today was her time to shine. She'd passed on taking a Pokémon journey in favor of this boring slop years and years ago, but she was sick of this.
Today was the day Effie made something of herself, and finally set out on her Pokémon journey!!
