I love my sci-fi mixed with fantasy. Tend to write about these two types of genre the most because of an interest I have in their propensity to work together in a story.
As for settings, I've been crafting a new fiction that takes place in a rural environment, contrasting with my usual urban and high-tech landscapes. The reason for this is to focus more on trainers going about their daily lives out in the dangerous frontier along with their Pokemon; exploring a place where technology is still more of a hobby rather than a way of life. It's that sweet bit of simpleness and slice of life I would like to write about for Pokemon. Already have seven chapters drafted so I'm rolling with it, no loafing here. Need to finish Protector's epilogue first however. Close to it.
