My impression, from what you've explained so far, is that it's pretty similar to "traditional" fantasy, which I've never been a fan of. But I'd be open to read more stuff in this genre if you still want to hear my two cents on it.

I wanted to be a pro translator too, back then. Having to think about adapting things that can't be translated directly like what we've been discussing gets my noggin joggin, I find it genuinely fun.
